PERMACULTURE

Pan-global Permaculture

Primrose Organic Farm has a growing collection of unusual, edible and medicinal plants from all around the World. They are being grown in demonstration 'World Gardens' .

In time, there will be at least ten 'World Gardens' including the Chilean Garden,  the American Garden,  the Himalayan Garden,  the Asian Garden and the Siberian Garden.

The gardens are mainly for perrennial plants, trees and shrubs. These are sometimes called 'Permaculture Plants' as they are generally edible or medicinal perrennials which  grow in more natural settings than the monocultures of modern agriculture.

Perrennial vegetables and ground- cover such as raspberries  are becoming more popular and are being introduced into Forest Gardens and Agroecology Projects / Edible Landscapes / Gardens.

Forest Gardening
Forest gardening is a sustainable method of growing food that mimics natural woodlands. It involves planting trees, shrubs, herbs and other plants in layers to create a habitat for animals and insects.

In the UK the layers are generally a top layer of nut trees, a lower layer of top fruit (apples & pears),  a shrub layer of currants and raspberries and a herb layer of wild garlic.

Pan Global Forest Gardens
Many new permaculture plants are from less well know parts of the World e.g. the Chilean Guava, the Siberian Pea tree,  the Himalayan Strawberry and the Japanese Wine Berry.

Many new superfruits such as Aronia Berries and Honey Berries can be grown in the UK and will feature in our planting.
